Introducing Chat Moderators
Conversation is at the heart of Periscope. We’ve always believed in the power of live video to bring people together to share an experience. But, sometimes people take advantage of the real-time, open nature of Periscope and send comments that detract from everyone else’s conversation. We’re committed to ensuring conversation on Periscope is healthy, and are rolling out an update that allows broadcasters to select moderators for the comments in their broadcasts.
Now, before you go live, you can assign chat moderators, who can help keep an eye on the comments in your broadcast and mute people on your behalf. When one of your selected moderators mutes someone in your audience, they will not be able to chat for the remainder of your broadcast. Anyone joining your broadcast on Periscope or Twitter will be able to see when someone has been muted by one of your moderators, but you can only assign moderators from Periscope.
At the end of your broadcast, you can see a list of the viewers that your moderators muted, and choose to block them from joining future broadcasts. To add moderators, select “Comment Moderation” from your Periscope profile. Learn more here.
This is a continuation of our work to improve the health of conversations on Periscope. This summer, we began more strictly enforcing our rules when people continue to send abusive chats during live broadcasts.
