Dear Periscope Community,
When we first launched Periscope, the only way to broadcast live was from a mobile phone. We still strongly believe in the power of sharing live video from mobile devices, but we’re also excited to broaden the opportunities for broadcasters to share new types of live video on Periscope.
Today, we’re introducing Periscope Producer: a new way for brands, media organizations and other live video creators to broadcast high quality streams from devices beyond a phone or tablet.
With Producer, you can stream high-quality live video from external sources, including streaming software, hardware encoders, and professional cameras, on Periscope and Twitter. Just like any other broadcast on Periscope, viewers can send comments and hearts, and watch live in the Periscope and Twitter apps as well as on the web at Periscope.tv.
In just the last few weeks, we’ve seen captivating examples of broadcasters streaming new types of live video content on Periscope.
During the most recent presidential debate, there were multiple broadcasters airing the official feeds in different languages and sharing unique pre-event and post-event perspectives live.
Periscope Producer has also been used by news organizations to extend the reach of their network broadcasts, and added timely, relevant content to breaking news events and the conversation that surrounds them.
Some of the world’s most well-known brands are broadcasting exclusive events, including fashion shows and film previews, allowing their audiences to experience them together.
Additionally, media organizations have streamed award shows, conferences and other noteworthy events with Producer. Previously, experiencing events like these required a physical presence or more traditional way to tune in. With Producer, broadcasters can bring these events to Periscope, allowing their audience to watch them together.
We’ve also seen our community experiment with new types of video content, including daily news shows, and we can’t wait to see what else you come up with.
Professionally-produced live broadcasts on Periscope has always been part of our vision, and gives our community new types of content to watch together live. You’ll start to see more produced live broadcasts on Periscope and Twitter, and we’re looking forward to watching new types of live broadcasts with you.
